The
Return Of Martin Gore
[Boyz, 12th April 2003. Words: Uncredited. Pictures: Uncredited.]
An interview with Martin beginning by discussing his Counterfeit2
solo work. It's perhaps understandable that a gay men's magazine will
have a bit of a slant on the questioning, but the interviewer fails to
pull Martin out of a non-existent closet or tease out some naughty
stories, and this is as near as I have come to seeing Martin angry.

Second Interview: Martin Gore
[Metro, 28th April 2003. Words: James Ellis.]
A free
newspaper given out on UK public transport goes into an interview with
Martin armed with nothing but stereotypes: Basildon, the 1980's,
skirts, doom and gloom. Martin tries gallantly to conceal his
impatience at these kind of questions, welcoming the opportunity to
discuss solo work.

Depeche
Frontman In New Mode
[Daily Mail, 2nd May 2003. Words: Adrian Thrills. Picture:
Uncredited.]
Newspaper article covering Dave's solo
project shortly before the release of Dirty Sticky Floors. The article
covers some familiar ground as regards band history and Dave's
personal problems, but also picks up on the refreshing change of
musical direction as well as looking at the story behind some of the
songs.

Cash
For Questions
[Q, June 2003. Words: Paul Stokes.
James Burns.]
Dave faces a round of questions from readers on all kinds of
subjects and all aspects of his life and career. Plenty of unexpected
comments and tidbits, and Dave's much loved cheeky swagger comes out
to play. This article has the famous picture of Dave peeing all over
the floor (before going on to describe accidentally peeing on an
autograph-hunter).

Facing
My Monsters
[Daily Mirror, 27th June
2003. Words: Gavin Martin. Picture: Uncredited.]
Newspaper article at the
time of the release of Paper Monsters, focusing on Dave's problems and
dramatic recovery as a way into the songs on the album. Dave shows his
usual honesty and openness here, both regarding his problems and his
attitudes to the future of Depeche Mode in the light of the new
direction that his solo work had taken him in.

The
Uncut Questionnaire: Dave Gahan
[Uncut, July 2003. Words: Chris
Roberts. Picture: Tom Sheehan.]
Short but intense interview with Dave
looking at the production of Paper Monsters and how his perspective on
music and his drug years coloured the album. Dave is very honest here
with the state of mind he was in at the time, but has obviously
reached a point where he can look at past events humourously. A very
worthwhile read.

Q&A
Dave Gahan
[Metro, 27th October
2003. Words: Rob Haynes. Picture: Uncredited.]
Mini-interview with Dave on the day of his
performance in Manchester on the third leg of the Paper Monsters tour.
Dave's (and the fans') reservations about the future of the band come
across more strongly in this interview, which doesn't end on an
optimistic note.

[Manchester

moderately
upbeat - if somewhat factually inaccurate - short review of Dave's solo
performance in Manchester on the third leg of the Paper Monsters
tour.
